Evaluation: Question 5 - How did you attract/address your audience?

How did you attract/address your audience?
We attracted the audiences in many different ways. For example we put our video on to youtube for the public to see and we also added annotations to the video so that the audience can click on links to another video which would link in to our video.


Here is a picture of the annotation which can link you to other videos which match in which the video you have just been watching. For example it could take you to other media videos which are based on the thrillers or it could even take you to a thriller trailer for an actual film.



By having the annotations it gets links to other videos as well as can show comments and can even have pop ups which can grab the audiences attention. There is an option on the video to be able to give feedback to the person who has published it online, by having people give their feedback it can give you ideas on if they like it and if they do not and if they do then you know to make more videos like it so that you can make your audience happy whereas if they do not like it you know what you need to change about it.





Here are three pictures related to what I just spoke about. The like and dislike picture and the all comments picture shows where the audience can give you feedback and let you know if you have attracted them, if you have attracted them then they will click the like button and they may even leave a good comment if they have time to. If they click the dislike button and leave a bad comment then you have not attracted them which means you need to work on ways to attract them. The third picture is a picture of one of the annotations I put onto the video it shows that sometimes you can get pop ups during videos and most of the time they are related to what you have been watching and most of them have helpful links so you can watch other videos.





Here is a picture of the feedback that we received on our thriller video. We received positive feedback from all of the four people who commented. By having the positive feedback it shows that we have attracted the audience and that they did enjoy the video. Most of the comments like the editing in the video which could suggest they are a fan of editing which could give us some ideas to create more editing videos to be able to attract and address our audience. The main way that we addressed our audience was by putting the video up on youtube and see who liked it and how many views we received and once we see the feedback like above we know how to address our audience in the future and how to get our target audience that we need.











This is a picture showing how many likes and how many dislikes we received also showing how many views our video received. Our video received 26 views and 1 like and no dislikes. This is a good sign and it shows that we have attracted our audience.














Evaluation: Question 6 - Equipment


For filming the Thriller we needed:


Camera
Tripod
Lights
Battery
Charger
Tape

The camera is the main part of filming the Thriller as we need something to record the Thriller on we also needed a tape for the footage to be recorded on, if we hadn't had the tape then we wouldn't be able to store the footage on.

This is the camera we used to film our opening sequence on, because we was putting music over our footage so we didn't need to connect a mic to the camera. 

This is the type of light we used this when we was filming and recording in the dart room, this is to make sure we get the facial effects and build mystery to the storyline. 

This is the tripod we stood the camera on while recording, this kept everything level and not wobbly. We were able to move the camera left to right while panning.

Having completing the filming process of the opening sequence to a Thriller has been a massive learning experience. This has pushed our group to the max. We had to arrange days where we could all film as its a group task. We have all had a turn on direction, using the camera and editing. We have to be very careful when we filmed that we included the following:

Camera Angles:
Extreme close ups
Close ups
Medium shot
Long shot

We had to be very specific when it come to what we wanted out actors dressed in as the custom plays a massive part to the Thriller because if they do not look old enough or smart enough then the whole opening sequence wouldn't look like an opening sequence to a Thriller more like a low budget film. We   needed to make sure when filming we made sure we filmed it while it was on the tripod as a giggly camera is not professional when filming, we would only not sure the tripod when we was shooting a point of view of one of the actors as it creates more tension to the audience.

Before we started to film we made sure all the equipment we took out worked and there was not faults to it, other wise we would of had to take out different equipment or if we hadn't of found the faults until we started to film then we would've had to delay the day we were planning on filming. Before we we're allowed to take the equipment out we had to pay a deposit for the camera in-case any damage was caused then we had paid got insurance to cover any repairs is any damage was caused.

Overall we have developed as individuals and as a group. We have each developed our editing, camerawork and foley skills. This has greatly improved our film final cut. To improve our skills we have practiced when editing parity and our rough cut. To develop our skills we have looked though various different videos and practiced using Final Cut Pro/AfterEffects to add motion tracked title slates.

Final Cut Pro & After effects were the two main applications we used to create our opening scene. This enabled us to use colour correction, filters and add our motion tracked title slates.

From the making of Parity which was based around continuity we have developed and improved our overall editing skills which involves how to colour correct, add and seamlessly join two shots together without any continuity errors.

Below are screenshots of Parity and our final opening sequence to show editing, shooting, motion tracking and colour correction.
The above screenshots show how we have progressed and used various different techniques to further improve our final thriller. This continuity task has helped to develop skills, I have used colour correction as you can see the screenshots on the left have a green hue effect and the screenshots on the right show a dark, dull effect with minimal colour. These add drama and make the scenes more tense. Both Videos show match on action, shot reverse shot to show conversation and extreme close ups which are all present in most thrillers. These add normality to our opening sequence as we want it to be like other thriller films. We have used foley to create the sound of tying on the keyboard and the effect of chains rattling when they are around the young girls ankles. To add extra realism to our opening scene we have added special motion tracking twice first when the text appears when the paper is lifted again shown in the 5th and 6th screenshot when the mans legs go over the text.

Evaluation: Question 4 - Audience Profile

This question is about the target audience to our Thriller, the audience would, typically be 18-29 year old men as it's a Crime Thriller. Men enjoy watching Thrillers as they normally star men of their own age and can relate to what is going on in the film as men who star in Thrillers typically have a job working in a busy city, which is less likely to draw attention to the crime they're committing, as they will have to much of a high paid job to lose over crime.

The types of films that a 18-29 year old would watch are mainly thrillers, such as, Silence of the Lambs, Seven, Dead Man Down, Usual Suspect and Shutter Island.


The men who watch Thrillers would shop in high end retail shops and maybe go for a more designer approach when it comes to dressing themselves. Brands such as, Ralph Lauren, Diesel, Hollister, RayBan, Superdry and Fred Perry. The types of shops that they will be visiting to get their clothes are, House of Frazer, John Lewis, Next, Tkmaxx and also Matlan. There are some higher market stores such as, House of Frazer and John Lewis where the designer brands are available, the lower market stores such as Next and Primark are where men can get smart clothes which able the low earning males can still dress smartly.


The audience of this Thriller would listen in on chat music, like club dance music as they will be in their peak part of their life and their social life will be in full swing, they will be old enough to be allowed in to clubs and bars. Therefore they will be listening to on chart and club dance music.

As the target audience would be very busy with work and traveling to and from work, but when they do have time they will watch things such as, How I meat Your Mother, Friends and Family Guy.


Evaluation: Question 2 - Characters & Stereotypes

The screenshots above on the left show our thriller opening sequence and on the right is two films one called "Taken" and the other called "The Disappearance of Lenkawood".

Our thriller represents younger females to be more at risk and vulnerable, this is because the thrillers above show young females being kidnapped. This shows that women are predominantly more likely to be kidnapped, young women are also looked upon as sex objects which is why many women are kidnapped like the film "Taken" where a girl has been kidnapped and put into the prostitution industry.

The film Taken involves a young girl being kidnapped for money by selling her into the prostitution industry. Our film is closely linked as it involves kidnapping and holding a young female to ransom. This also shows that women have less power over men as these films are driven by male actors, the male actors provoke the films by kidnapping to try and make money. All three trillers above have dark scenes and show women to be powerless. This is shown where in my thriller has a girl with her mouth tired to take away her voice and where the woman in Lenkawood has her face covered, this shows that there voice and identity has been taken away showing them to be powerless and controlled.
The woman in this photo and the woman in our thriller both have plain dark clothing which can symbolise and show how women can all be the same and uniform. This also shows women to be objects and belongings to men. The dark colour of their clothing is symbolic of vulnerability and death which can foreshadow bad upcoming events like in Taken where the young girl is sold into prostitution.
